Esquire
In 2010, I began my journey at one of the most acclaimed magazines in the world, as contributing editor for its Romanian edition, in charge of editing content from around 50 contributors and making sure everyone involved kept to our core values and mission. Two years in the process, I was named managing editor of the magazine and became one of the youngest professionals to ever hold such role.
My responsibilities:
- Managing an award-winning edition of an internationally acclaimed magazine with over 80 years of history
- Contributing to the strategy and development of the magazine, coming up with new editorial structures, new revenue models and methods of better engaging local advertisers and our international partners
- Creating and producing various related editorial products, from stand-alone's, to complimentary magazines and brochures aimed at boosting and supporting advertising and revenue on a declining advertising market
- Coordinating a team of +50, assigning tasks, setting deadlines, validating content and coordinating the editorial process together with the editor-in-chief, the senior editor, and the art director
- Contributing with content to Esquire US, Malaysia, and The Philippines.
Accomplishments:
- 6 years (2010-2015), together with a small team of 4-7 staff employees, we released 20 trimestrial issues of around 130 pages, with local and foreign content
- 24 was my age when I was named managing editor of the magazine in Romania
- Won 2 national journalism awards for my in-depth investigations, the only ones that the magazine won in the country during that time
- The extent of my investigations: Over 200 sources interviewed for just 1 story which I reported on for around 3 weeks
- Received 4 scholarships for training abroad on 3 continents
- Became the first and only Romanian journalist published in Esquire U.S.
- Was published in 1 book with 2 long-form stories, in a collection of the best Romanian nonfiction of my generation.
